Modern Day Mythology

I’m a little worried about the new Thor movie coming out next year.  I am a huge Thor fan, mostly the original myth of Thor.  I’m also a huge Marvel Comics fan.  I grew up on Uncanny X-men.  Back when Wolverine was a cult hero, not the mainstream hero he is now.  A few years back the movie Beowulf came out.  I really wanted the movie to be great because I name most all my Characters in MMO’s after him.  It ended up being alright, nothing fantastic but one part did make me laugh.  My EQ1 character Beowolv the Beastlord always ran around shirtless to show off his manliness / hero-ness.    Beowulf the movie had Beowulf fight and defeat Grendel while being completely naked.  Pretty funny.  All the superhero movies coming out are fantastic.  Ironman, X-men, Batman, Spider-man are like modern-day mythology which is part of the fun for me.  I love mythology.  I have a couple worries about the Thor the movie.  One is at this moment Thor is still at cult status which makes him more cool.  When Thor the movie hits he will become mainstream thereby losing cool points.  When my mom knows what Mjolnir is that means a loss of thousands of cool points.  Another worry is Thor will be a modern-day mythology about an ancient day mythology which is wierd.  I like the casting of Hannibal Lector as Odin and Captain Kirk’s dad as Thor looks good though.  Here’s to hoping the Thor movie crushes like a hammer to a Frost Giant’s skull!

Yesterday I was grouped with 3 gnomes.  So it was 3 gnomes and a barbarian.  I thought it would be funny if I could get myself a gnome illusion so we could have a party of all gnomes.  A gnomish brigade if you will.  I hit the marketplace and purchased a Petrified Gnome Eye item for approximately 1 plat and a couple gnome bones components for approximately 10 gold each.  Each use takes 1 bone component but lasts for 6 hours.  Beoromir as a gnome looks hilarious.  He has blue shades on underneath his blue viking helmet and he looks like a little boy in armor.  It is pretty funny.  I’m looking forward to suprising the rest of The Einherjar with the illusion.

The Einherjar

MMO Viking needs a name for his new EQ2 crew.  I am going to go with Einherjar.  In norse mythology, the Einherjar are those that have died in battle and are brought to Valhalla by valkyries.  In Valhalla, The Einherjar eat their fill of the nightly-resurrecting beast Sæhrímnir, and are brought their fill of mead from the udders of the goat Heiðrún by valkyries.  The Einherjar prepare daily for the events of Ragnarök, when they will march with Odin to battle the frost giants, the enemies of the gods.  MMO Viking’s crew of Einherjar ran a bunch of Sentinel’s Fate instances today.  Beo actually parsed 2nd place to the warlock today on one of the fights which is nice to see some progress in that regard.  I was getting tired of the Inquisitor and Paladin beating me on parses all the time, which definitely seemed unfair.  Beoromir does his best DPS on single targets.  On multiple mobs Reddranth does tons of DPS with his numerous AE attacks.  I really like the crew’s makeup.  Paladin at tank with awesome survivability and maintaining agro.  Inquisitor at the battle cleric position healing and dealing dps.  Defiler as another healer with fantastic wards for alllies and dots and debuffs for enemies.  Dirge for more excellent DPS and lots of buffs for allies and debuffs for enemies.  Brigand as the best single target debuffing in the game and good DPS.  And last but not least the Warlock, the Master-blaster, master of AE’s and DPS.  I need to get a screenshot of The Einherjar all together but they are hard to get to stand in one place long enough without running off into another glorious battle!

Leveling to 90

The Viking Fellowship has decided it has enough aa points now and that it’s time to level to 90.  Beoromir is currently Level 84 with 175 alternate advancement points.  Beoromir is also currently at Level 71 Carpenter.  The Fellowship and the Olympians spent some time in The Hole the other day.  Beo has several level 90 items banked from that.  Beoromir’s Stronghold is pretty much finished except he needs items from city and holiday festivals to really complete it.  A lot of the floor tiles and walls come from the different festivals.  It’s hot outside!  MMO Viking prefers cold to hot, unless at the beach.

Mythical

My boy Redman the Paladin earned his mythical Holy Avenger sword “The Truth of Marr” with some help from the Viking Fellowship & Olympians.  Apparently of all the classes mythical weapons, Paladins is very powerful.  They say SOE loves its Paladins.  My first character ever in Everquest 1 was a dwarven paladin and I tell you he sucked.  Hard to solo with them back then.  Very slow leveling and gear dependent.  I eventually switched to a Barbarian Beastlord after a 10 month tour of duty cruising the Persian Gulf.  The Beastlord was alot more fun, specially to solo with.  I’ve come to recongize that I am not a tank type in MMOs.  I prefer the DPS type that can relax a bit.  The Hunter in LOTRO that I played was very easy.  He could sit waaaaaaay back and still crank out his max DPS.  EQ2 playing my Brigand is a bit more difficult.  I actually have to move to the back of the mobs to be able to crank out his max potiental van-damage.  It’s not difficult with 1 mob, but with 5 mobs that circle the tank it’s kind of a pain in the arse.  In other news Beoromir built a huge aquarium in his stronghold.  He still needs a squid for it and some coral and sand tiles, but it looks pretty good.
