MMO Viking

Everquest memories

MMO Viking started playing Everquest sometime around 2001.  I had heard of Everquest and had wanted to check it out before that but could not afford a computer at the time.  I was stationed on the USS Camden and a shipmate told me about how great it was.  The shipmate had a level 35 wizard and would sit soloing monsters in one spot and regening mana slowly in between fights while staring into his spellbook.  I think with his kids and family around he didn’t have time to get a real group haha.  Anyway he played on the Prexus server so thats where I ended up.  My first character was Bjornson Bronzebeard the Dwarven Paladin.  I died immediately of drowning by falling down a well in Kaladim.  Spent levels 1 – 20ish in Butcherblock at the X-roads (crossroads) and the Chessboard.  I loved it.  Met new friends, learned what =p meant and what lol meant.  Joined a guild recommended by a friend, my first guild ever called Legion of Light.  A very casual guild led by a kid named Glamm, an Elf Wizard.  Glamm enjoyed training multiple giants behind him while running around like crazy scaring everyone.  Glamm-damage!  I met lots of friends in Legion of Light.  Amea, Cappy, Pappyjo, Ensane, Corin, Tawneywolf, Dwarftosser, Glamm, Gelhorn, Necrroelf, Mekaros, Kafalia, and i’m sure im forgetting some…

I ended up switching from Bjornson after he made level 40ish to Beowolv Foamfollower the Barbarian Beastlord who I enjoyed playing much more.  Paladins were a bitch to solo with.  Beastlords could solo very well.  I also switched guilds to a casual raiding guild called Noble Rage.  Alot of former Legion of Light peeps ended up in Noble Rage too.

  1. Drowning when you first start playing EQ is practically an initiation rite! I drowned in Ak`anon within about 5 minutes after starting! Love that copper hammer of striking in the screenshot, but what’s your other weapon? I think it’s the same weapon model as the willsapper (kind of hard to see it), but that model was used all over the place. I’d guess it’s either from LDoN or from somewhere in Luclin. Was it from Itraer Vius maybe? Think that thing dropped a couple of monk/beastlord weapons, but I forget if they looked like that or not.

    • I forget, I think I bought it from the bazaar and it had a good speedy ratio. Definately was a monk/bst weapon.

  2. FORGET!? You should remember every single weapon you ever had in EQ!

    For me it went:
    1. Sacrificial Dagger, which I was twinked with.
    2. Eye of Innoruuk, which I moved from my secondary to my primary once I picked up a ceremonial hate candle from Nadox in the bazaar for 15pp.
    3. Epic 1.0
    4. Dragorn-Inscribed Caduceus from Tiorpat in RCoD.
    4. Epic 1.5
    5. Epic 2.0

  3. WTF!?!! Why does Ensane get a double mention (Ensane and Necrroelf) while you only name Cappy and completely ignore Capron and Capstar! Bald-faced favoritism!!

Oh yah, and EQ was the roxxor. May Brell make LotR as good someday!

  4. He probably forgot they were the same person. He should have just mentioned Capron in your case, Cappy and Capstar were absolutely awful!

This actually brings to light an interesting theory. The reason why you played Cappy and Capstar at all was to make Capron, who in any other circumstance was fairly terrible, look like a god by comparison!

  5. Capron WAS a God! (Except compared to DT or any of the other dozens of serious raiding shaman . . . I did pretty decent with what I had!)
